CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WEBB SPARTANS !!

The Webb Spartans are the Kelley Cup Champions for 2017, going undefeated against: West Knoxville, CAK, Farragut and Catholic, while outscored their competition 54-14 in those 4 games.  Webb had a great season (12-3 overall, 7-0 district), with their only losses coming to Ballard (Louisville, KY), Centennial (Nashville), and University (Nashville) in 3 OT, after which the Spartans went on an 8 game winning streak to close out the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record on their home field.

The coach of the Spartans, Rico Silvera, is in his 14th year and for the 13th straight year Webb has represented Knoxville in the state playoffs, winning the D2 Eastern Region for a 3rd time.  Coach Silvera shared his thoughts on the 2017 Spartans team, saying:

"This year the field of teams in Knoxville was far and away the strongest group of teams we have ever played.  Winning the Kelley Cup is a significant accomplishment because we were competing against 3 of the top 6 seeds in the state playoffs.  Our strength of schedule has made our success this year especially satisfying.  In my 14 years at Webb, this has been one of the hardest working and most closely knit groups that have played here."

Congratulations to the 2017 Kelley Cup Winners the Webb Spartans !!

The Kelley Cup has been established in the name of Chris Kelley, a long time lacrosse coach who has contributed immeasurably to the growth of lacrosse in Knoxville.  The cup winner is determined from the six local area programs (Catholic, CAK, Farragut, Roane County, Webb, and West Knoxville) based on the superior head to head record between the teams.
