Smoky Mountain lacrosse is excited to once again sponsor the Knoxville Player of the Week for the 2017 season. The Knoxville area is represented by teams from:
Each week players from the six squads are eligible to have their accomplishments recognized as the Knoxville Player of the Week.
2018 Knoxville Player of the Year
Morgan Ernst - 2018 SMLC Player of the Year
Among the varsity division 2 midfielders over a 12 game season, Morgan was ranked #1 for:
These statistics are even more impressive when you consider that the Webb senior was primarily matched up against the top line of every opponent. Referred to by Webb head coach Rico "The Sieve" Silvera as "a once in a generation or once in a coaching career type player", Morgan displayed a complete package of lacrosse skills with the ability to dominate face-offs, defend against dangerous attackers, push the ball in transition, and also initiate the offense with dynamic dodging.
Coach Silvera had additional words of praise for the future West Point Cadet, saying:
" Morgan is simply the best pure athlete I have ever coached. You cannot stop Morgan by sliding one man to him. Some of his goals border on ridiculous. He is an auto clear with the ball in his stick where he uses his athleticism and 4.5 speed to create fast breaks out of settled situations. In the state semifinals last year he scored 6 goals. He is biggest in the big games. He has received an appointment to West Point where he will play Division 1 football as a defensive back."
CONGRATULATIONS TO MORGAN FOR A FANTASTIC SEASON AND LACROSSE CAREER AT WEBB.
WE WISH HIM WELL IN THE FUTURE AT WEST POINT AND POINTS BEYOND !!!
Davis Delozier - 2017 SMLC Player of the Year
Davis Delozier is a Junior attackman at Webb, who accounted for 35 goals, 19 assists, 56 groundballs, and 12 takeaways during 16 games this season. After playing midfield last season, Davis transitioned to attack in 2017. His coach, Rico Silvera, was effusive in describing his player, saying:
"He is, in my opinion, the top attackman in the region and one of the top three in the state. He got better and better as the season progressed and as he adjusted to a new position, leading the team in goals and assists. He is an explosive dodger, was second on the team in ground balls, and is a relentless rider who tied for 4th on the team in takeaways on attack. He drew every team's top defender, however he was still capable of forcing a defensive slide. He has an excellent shot and dodges with great vision.
Davis's stats were not amassed in blowouts against weaker teams. Webb played the toughest schedule in the East and one of the toughest in the State. We went 13-3 (11-1 in classification) against a schedule that included 9 games against 8 of the possible 11 D2 playoff teams and 3 D1 teams. Twice we played two games in one day (once against 2 elite D2 playoff teams). Davis, who was honored as a team captain as a junior, was a key to our success and was an emotional and performance leader for our team."
CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVIS FOR A FANTASTIC SEASON AND GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR !!!

Farragut Head Coach Taylor Clark had this to say about Ethan's performance:
"Ethan played lights out for us and made clutch saves when he had to and it definitely put us in a position to win the game over a very tough opponent. Our defense also tightened up at the end of the first quarter only letting two goals in the rest of the game which is a tribute to his play in the cage and our defense's ability to shut down their offense."
Congratulations to Ethan Smalling, Knoxville Player of the Week for March 20th-26th.

2016 Knoxville High School Player of the Year
Knoxville Catholic Irish
Smoky Mountain Lacrosse is pleased to announce Trace Molzon as the 2016 Knoxville Lacrosse Player of the Year.
As a junior defender last season Trace was the spearhead of Knoxville Catholic’s rebuilding program as he was awarded First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State honors as a long-stick defender.
According to Catholic coach Marty Sutton, “Trace Molzon was by far our #1 guy for defending one on one vs the best players…he also was a one-man clearing machine. I don’t remember seeing any or many that were much better in our region. In addition, I would add that Trace is one of those special lacrosse players with an exceptional work ethic and desire to be the absolute best player he can be. He really could play any position on the field, if needed. He leads by example and always gives 110%.”
We thank Trace for his dedication to lacrosse and wish him the very best in the future.
